White Oak Parent-Child Center
White Oak Parent-Child Center is a program offered through the Halifax-Warren County Smart Start Partnership for Children. It provides an excellent early childhood program based on developmentally appropriate best practices. The program focuses on children learning through play and exploration of their environment. Children are given the opportunity to become independent learners who solve problems, express their ideas and feelings.

Smart Start for Halifax County
Smart Start meets the developmental needs of children ages 3-4. The program focuses on developing students and strives to empower teachers and students to become community leader.s.
Quick Facts:
Creative curriculum designed to meet the developmental needs of students including cognitive, social/emotional, physical, and language development.
Students are immersed in learning by interacting with their environment.
Teachers are given a detailed rubric that targets different learning standards including literacy, math, arts, technology, and social studies.
Students receive a pre-evaluation by a training coordinator when they begin the program. Teachers continue to collect data to show and explain student growth while in the program.
4-H Clubs and Camps of Halifax County
The 4-H Rural Life Center is located in Halifax, N.C. It provides camps throughout the summer for students ages 6 -14. Students are able to learn life skills that allow them to become critical-thinkers, problem-solvers, and innovators in and outside the classroom. Students do not have to be members of a 4-H club in order to participate. The camps are a great way for students to continue to learn when school is not in session.

The Boys and Girls Club of Halifax County
The Boys and Girls Club of Halifax County is located in Roanoke Rapids, N.C. The organization’s mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. The Boys and Girls Club offers an after-school program as well as programs/camps throughout the summer. Students are able to receive homework help, time to study, and socialize with friends while playing games similar to those in physical education classes.
The John 3:16 Center
Located in Littleton, N.C., the organization’s mission is to strive to eradicate generational poverty and child abuse/neglect using Christian principles of education and relationship building in our community. The center was recently built and offers a variety of services to the local community.
Services Offered:
Homework Club (Grades 1 and Up)
A free, safe, structured environment for children to complete homework and engage in supervised activities.
Registration is on a first-come, first served bases for the duration of the school year.
Camp J316 (Grades 1 and Up)
A free summer day camp that offers six, one week sessions with the availability of 20 students.
Students are accepted on a first come, first served basis.
Students can participate in field games, devotions, science experiments, and water games.
Breakfast and lunch are provided.
Outdoor Recreation
A playground, basketball court, and volleyball court are open to the public.
Computer Labs
Computers are available to the public for educational and employment searches.
Expectant Mother and New Mothers
Parenting classes by trained healthcare professionals
Family Outreach
Clothing drive and giveaways are offered twice a year, limited home furnishings, hygienic items, school supplies, and uniforms
Food Pantry
Food assistance is available with the completion of an application
